The course will take you on a 1/3-mile lap through Gordon Park.
Children in care often find themselves in familiar situations - an unhappy cycle of being in an out of foster care.
After you run each lap, you will receive a rubber band indicating the completion of the lap. Keep the rubber bands as a record and souvenir for you.
Along the course will be four ‘disruption zones’.
Run as many laps as you can and finish in the Home Zone, where refreshments and yard games await!
-
Foster care comes with its own unique challenges. You will have an opportunity to experience some of the set backs a child in care may experience as you run through the (optional) lighthearted simulations of the disruption zones.
See the disruption zones part of our webpage for more information.
-
Children in foster care have experienced serious trauma, disruption, and confusion. When vulnerable children are supported by loving families and churches, their environment becomes forever brighter.
When you are finished running, join us in the Bubble Finish Line for a colorful and joyful finish!

-
There are so many voices from different points of view and perspectives telling a child in care what to do and where to go. Sometimes it all just feels like a sea of noise.
-
The foster experience is full of bumps in the road. A person has to think on their feet to avoid them, and sometimes they are truly unavoidable. There’s a sense that one needs to be constantly vigilant, never letting their guard down, always on the lookout for the next bump.
-
Sometimes it feels like you take 1 step forward and 3 steps back. And no matter how hard you try, there is no sense of ease or peace about it. It’s just pure HARD.
-
When children enter the child welfare system, they run into so many ups & downs before landing in a stable environment. In fact, studies show that the trauma kids in foster care face often leads to twice the rates of PTSD than combat veterans.
Home Zone
Children in foster care long to have a place to call home. Join us in the home zone for food, inflatables, music and games.
-
Games will be available in the Home Zone for your enjoyment! After your run, between your run, before your run - whenever!
-
Join us for a family picnic. After a satisfying day of activity, enjoy a outdoor snack - on us!
