Disruption Zones
Ups & Downs
When children enter the child welfare system, they run into so many ups & downs before landing in a stable environment. In fact, studies show that the trauma kids in foster care face often leads to twice the rates of PTSD than combat veterans.
Uphill Battle
Sometimes it feels like you take 1 step forward and 3 steps back. And no matter how hard you try, there is no sense of ease or peace about it. It’s just pure HARD.
Bumps Galore
The foster experience is full of bumps in the road. A person has to think on their feet to avoid them, and sometimes they are truly unavoidable. There’s a sense that one needs to be constantly vigilant, never letting their guard down, always on the lookout for the next bump.
Drown Out The Noise
There are so many voices from different points of view and perspectives telling a child in care what to do and where to go. Sometimes it all just feels like a sea of noise.
Ways to Participate
Register
This one-hour event is more than a run—it's an experience.
Participants of all ages will complete a half-mile loop, moving through four "Disruption Zones" that represent common challenges faced by children and families involved in foster care.
Each lap ends in the Home Zone, where participants can relax, recharge, enjoy refreshments, connect, and celebrate the difference we can make together.
Support a Runner
Do you know someone running or walking the course? Support them as they run or walk to break the cycle of foster care!
Sponsor the Event
Help bring this event back to Wausau year after year! You can be a part of helping vulnerable children find belonging. Donate to sponsor this event and spread awareness of the need in foster care.
Volunteer
We couldn’t put this event on without dedicated volunteers. We are in need of volunteers to set up and take down the event and man the disruption and home zones. Dedicated volunteers are essential for the participants to truly experience the event at its best!
